Vintage Depression Era Double Wedding Ring Quilt with Documented Provenance
This is an authentic vintage, handmade quilt.
It is made of 100% cotton, mainly in feed sacks from the 1930s.
It comes with some handwritten documentation.
Because I have purchased an entire collection, I have a little more history than what’s written on the note.
The note reads: “Patchwork double wedding ring made by my mother-in-law and quilted by the Country Club Quilters of Nebraska around 1935.”
The writer of the note (whose name I do not know) was the daughter-in-law of the maker, Wilhelmina Schwisow, born in Germany around 1850.
The quilt was passed to her daughter-in-law (the author of the note), then to her daughter-in-law, Reta Schwisow.
I do know that the quilt moved from Nebraska to Washington State around 1987.
The last owner (third generation of this family-Reta) passed, and her family donated the entire collection to The First United Methodist Church of Olympia, Washington.
I purchased that collection and am now offering it to the public, including the documentation.
There are several areas with stains and tears (see photos), but all are very minor and it is still a beautiful display quilt with documented history.
It measures 79” x 81”
